![]() Shaykh Ibn 'Ashur wrote around 21 books on several topics. One of his students in this time is the well-known Tunisian shaykh Muhammad Shadhili an-Nayfar. ![]() That book -which can be found online as a PDF- contains an extensive biography of the shaykh as well. This reminds me there is a nice linguistical commentary of shaykh Ibn 'Ashur on the Muwatta of imam Malik radi'Allahu 'anhu with the title: Kashf al-Mughatta min al-Ma'ani wa'l-Alfazi'l-Waqi'ah fi'l-Muwatta. Imam Abdullah Hassan from the UK is probably one of the few people who frequently refers to Ibn 'Ashur in several articles about maqasid on his website. Here is a long article about him and his work (which you -andalusi- have probably read) and it discusses his tafsir: An extensive contemporary commentary on the Quran - 30 volume set. Suhaib Webb mentions him often in his lessons. A monumental work by Al Shaikh Ibn Ashur (1879 -1973), the eminent Tunisian Islamic scholar. His tafsir is a masterpiece and certainly reliable, w'Allahu 'alam. Maka tak heran jika Ibn ‘Asyur dibesarkan dalam lingkungan kondusif bagi seorang yang. Hingga pada tahun 1860 ia dipercaya menjadi Mufti di negaranya. He was a moderate Sunni scholar and a Maliki in fiqh. Kakek Ibn ‘Asyur salah satunya, yaitu Muhammad Tahir bin Muhammad bin Muhammad Syazili adalah seorang ahli nahwu, ahli fiqih, bahkan pada tahun 1851 menjabat sebagai ketua qadi di Tunisia. Several books in English are available on that topic and his approach but otherwise there is not much info about him available in English. Shaykh Muhammad at-Tahir ibn 'Ashur rahimahullah from Tunisia was Shaykh ul-Islam in his time and he is mostly famous because of his expansion on the maqasid of the shari'ah.
